LOLcat, Suw and I wish you a happy Thanksgiving. I think that I’ve finally figured out what I’m going to make for Thanksgiving dinner with Suw. Baked Egg crepe custard cups with french beans with pumpkin custard for dessert. Yum.

And this little bit of holiday crunk video, the Turkey Wrap from the folks at BoingBoingTV.

Linux on an iBook via X11, originally uploaded by Kevglobal.

My friend Vicky claims that I do unnatural things like make Macs and PCs talk together. Although I doubt she would claim a religious bone in her body, she seems disturbed as if I have violated some fundamental law of nature. “Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria.” Well, I am sure that I will really scare her now.

I’ve been playing with the Ubuntu distribution of Linux for the last three of four months. Suw is probably worried that I’m playing with the computer to avoid preparation for our wedding. But now I have a Linux tower in the corner that is serving as our music server and soon our TV server. It works great. And instead of loading Linux on our Macs, we just use X11 to run remote sessions on it. I’m surprised at how easy it is because I’ve been stymied by Linux in the past with all of the dependencies for software and the difficulty in updating it, but Ubuntu really has moved things forward with Linux.

X11 is definitely a great thing. I’m writing this post via Flickr using Firefox in an X11 window on my iBook. I probably could even do this so I could run sessions on our server in north London just about anywhere in the internet, but I need to get a little more comfortable with Linux security first. OK, that’s enough geeking out. I better get back to wedding planning.

Cassie chases her tail

What better Saturday morning entertainment than a cat? Cassie is one of two cats that althought they look quite similar are only cousins: Cassie and Polly as in the twins Castor and Pollux. I got a little bit of the action with my camera phone, but this was the tail end of it pardon the pun. Seeing as Suw and I can’t have cats of our own – our flat is too small even for us and would be cruel and unusual punishment for a cat – we have to enjoy the cats that Suw’s parents have. Cats are just so damn cute. (And as we often say, cats are not code word for anything else.)

A mouse’s nest

OK,  the tech desk at HQ got this mouse that is part of a carbon offsetting scheme of sorts. Follow the link, and all is explained. It’s publicising a search engine that gives some of its profits to specific charities, in this case, the Woodland Trust.

But the packaging? It also has a scrolling wheel, which I’m pretty sure will soon be clogged with detritus from the hay. Huh? They put the mouse in what looks like hay and covered it in artificial grass. It looks more like a mouse’s nest than a computer mouse.

UPDATE: Suw remined me that the most important thing to note in this picture is that it’s a PS2 mouse. Clicking it old school!

Cat on a car
I spotted this kitty on my way to work today. Those ears tell me that he wasn’t striking a pose. He seemed perturbed. I guess I was getting into his personal space.
